How to become a member at the local school.
If your school doesn't have an association, first steps to take...
Can I be a member of both a Home & School Association and a school council? Yes. Home and School Associations and School Councils are not competitors. Each group has a specific and separate mandate. Members are always welcome to participate at every level. The advocacy efforts and the focus of Home and School extend far beyond the local school and are not restricted to education matters. The Provincial legislation for school councils even guarantees that a Home and School Association may have a representative on the School Council.
Can teachers and other school staff join their Home and School Association? Yes. OFHSA and its members work to foster co-operation between parents and teachers. By promoting understanding between the home and the school we can only benefit the child.
Are there opportunities to get involved beyond my local school? Yes. The Federation has a tiered structure of Associations, Councils, Regions and a Provincial Board. Members are always welcome to participate at every level.
What do I get for my membership?
Association members have the right to attend the meetings of their group, elect the Executive, pass the budget and be involved in the work and the decisions of the Association. All paid members receive copies of the OFHSA provincial newsletter, can view the 'OFHSA Bulletin' at meetings or on the OFHSA website, and are covered by the liability insurance policy of the Federation. Members also have the opportunity to attend the annual AGM and Conference of the Federation. At this event members set bylaws, policies and direction for the organization.
Your membership fee also supports the advocacy efforts of the Federation, including participation in numerous committees, responses and representation to others, including government, education and health partners and legislators.
You become a member of a provincial and national network of experienced, committed individuals working on behalf of children and youth.
